About

Dr Anna Kruglova is Lecturer of Terrorism Studies at the School of Arts and Media at the University of Salford and an Associate fellow at the International Centre for Countering Terrorism in the Hague and a member of AVERT Research Network, VoxPol Research Excellence Network, · Academic and Practitioner Network of the UK Commission for Countering Extremism (APCEN), Radicalization, Rehabilitation, Reintegration, and Recidivism Network (4R Network) and European Expert Network on Terrorist Issues.

Anna’s book Terrorist Propaganda, Recruitment and Branding: Selling Terror Online represents her main research interest in the terrorists’ use of marketing techniques (such as emotional branding) and identity manipulation in their recruitment strategy.

Her further research interests focus on terrorist propaganda, and she is particularly interested in exploring the role of marketing and social media in the recruitment process, as well as the creation of extremist content, and the role of disinformation and misinformation. In her research, Anna is looking at jihadist, far-right, and mixed ideology groups as well as gender-based violence in the West and in Russia/post-Soviet space.

Anna has been interviewed or cited on national and international media outlets including BBC, Radio 4, Dagens Nyheter (Sweden) and acted as a keynote speaker at major international forums such as United Nations and EU Radicalisation Awareness Network.

Anna has a PhD in International Studies from Queen’s University Belfast. She also holds an MA in International Conflict Studies from King’s College London and MSc in Security Studies from UCL.
